What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to make patients more comfortable during dental procedures.
We try to do everything we can at Expressions Dental Care to make patients feel relaxed and at ease during their dental appointments. In addition to sedation, we will work at your pace, take breaks as needed, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
At our dental clinic, we offer a variety of sedation methods. If you require sedation for a dental procedure, our dentists will work with you to determine which option is best for your situation.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is breathed in through the nose and mouth. Even though patients are awake and able to communicate, the medication calms them. It also reduces anxiety, raises the pain threshold, reduces the gag reflex, and makes time fly by.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids that your dentist prescribes. The medication is administered orally before a dental appointment. It keeps you awake during the procedure but has a calming effect that can relax you.
IV Sedation
For the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia, IV sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein. Our dental team will connect you to a monitor so that the dentist can track your vital signs throughout the procedure.
