Choosing The Winning Smile
Rather than choose one lucky person ourselves, the team at Expressions Dental Care asked the community who they thought deserved our $30,000 smile makeover - Kindergarten teacher Sabrina Mathews won by a landslide!
A Community Celebration
We wanted to help Sabrina celebrate, so we held a surprise party to let her know that she had won our $30,000 smile makeover. Thanks to Mayor Dave Barrow and MPP Daisy Wai for coming out to celebrate Sabrina's smile .
Healing Smiles
Having lost her husband to cancer, then losing many her teeth after her own cancer treatment, Sabrina was in a dark place. The community decided it was time to help this kind and giving woman to smile once again.
Sharing Smiles
After Sabrina's teeth became damaged she lost the confidence to smile. Hiding her smile from her young students and the world. Now Dr. Bengall and his team are proud to help restore Sabrina's smile confidence once again!

Making Over Sabrina's Smile
Sabrina's smile began to fade about six months after her cancer treatment. Fragile teeth, missing teeth and discomfort caused by dentures caused Sabrina to lose confidence in her smile. Our goal was to restore Sabrina's smile and confidence using a range of services available at our dental clinic.

Dr. Bengall was the primary dentist involved in providing the dental care to make over Sabrina's smile, but any full smile restoration requires the skill and effort of a team of dentists and dental professionals.
Dental technology has also played a key role in restoring the smiles of many people across our community. Thank you to Nobel Biocare, Durban Dental Laboratory and Esthetics Dental Lab for their role in making Sabrina's new smile bright and healthy.

How comfortable do you feel with this new lease on your smile?
With this new smile I have become more outgoing and confident than I have ever been in my life. I feel such a positive energy every day and my smile projects the confidence I have and how good I feel about myself now. As a kindergarten teacher, I am always interacting with children and their families. For years I had wished I had nice teeth again, so I could smile and laugh with my children, and greet them with a warm smile every morning and now I can, which warms my heart.

How has your new smile impacted your life?
My new smile has made me feel much happier about myself and my appearance. I feel free from having to worry about people's responses to my teeth and from avoiding contact with people. I hid my teeth for years and felt invisible, however now being able to smile all the time makes me feel so alive which has boosted my self-image and self-esteem.

What do you feel has been the biggest impact since your new smile?
My new smile has given me the ability to have a much healthier lifestyle. As a cancer survivor, my nutrition and health are my top priority but when I lost my teeth, and couldn’t eat a healthy diet, I also lost the ability to maintain my health which had declined and was quite concerning to me.
However, since receiving a new smile my diet has changed and I enjoy eating all the nutritious and healthy foods that I have missed for years, which has had a positive effect on my health, with an added bonus of some weight loss.

What was the goal you had set for yourself when you realized you won the contest and how has your new smile helped you realize that goal?
Having a university degree has always been my dream, so one of my biggest goals I set for myself after finding out that I had won the “New Smile Contest” was to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Studies and have a graduation picture with my new smile.
After my new smile was complete, I decided to finish my degree, so I registered right away and have recently graduated! On graduation day, I couldn’t stop smiling when I put my gown on. I was so happy knowing that this day had finally arrived.

We were excited to let Sabrina know that the community chose her as the person deserving of our $30, 000 smile makeover - and so we arranged a little surprise party with family, friends, Mayor Dave Barrow and MPP Daisy Wai. Check out the before video to meet our surprised and deserving winning.
Community Involvement
Our team of professionals at Expressions Dental Care believes that playing a role in local programs allows us to play a role in creating stronger community bonds and making Richmond Hill a great place for families to thrive. From providing electric toothbrushes throughout the year to sponsoring local hockey, here are some of the ways we give back to our community:
Free Concert
February: In support of the Richmond Hill Philharmonic Orchestra (volunteers) – patients were treated to a free concert and reception
Skate Party
March: In support of the Richmond Hill Food Bank – patients were treated to a March break skate party

April: Celebrating 30 years of serving the Richmond Hill community - Our $30,000 Smile Contest

May: In support of the Yellow Brick House – part of the proceeds of our whitening special donated

June: In support of 360 Kids- Free ice cream from truck in front of our office to all - $1 donated for every cone
Yoga Night
July/August: Complimentary Yoga night to help promote fitness and wellbeing in our community.
Sportsguard Clinic
September: Sportsguard clinic to ensure that our Richmond Hill athletes have what it takes to protect their smiles.

October: Sponsored Vaughan Rangers Novice select hockey team.
